Million Dollar Homepage
On The Million Dollar Homepage you can buy pixels for $1 each. It's a brilliant idea, and frankly I'm surprised someone didn't think of this earlier. Pixel pushing creator Alex Tew has already sold more than 100,000 pixels (basically permanent ad space), so he's making good progress on making that million he seems to think he needs for university studies:
It was a muggy summer's night late in August, the time around midnight, and there I was, lying on my bed with a notepad, brainstorming ideas to make money for uni. I think I'm quite a creative person, so I wanted to come up with an idea that was unique and would hopefully capture people's imagination, but with the whole purpose of making money. No point being shy about it! I think we brits can sometimes be too shy about money. Well bugger that, I DO NOT want to be a broke student!
A dollar per pixel too steep for you? This is the web, we demand a free alternative for everything! In this case you need look no further than The Zero Dollar Homepage!

...and there is http://www.milliondollarwomenshomepage.com/ (registered by Luquette, Teresa, 4306 Colonial Dr., Nacogdoches, Texas 75965, United States, (936) 559-0500, tluquette@cox.net) with the same principle and there is http://www.milliondollarwomenhomepage.com/ (w/out 's' registered by the the same Teresa and for sale/still parked).
Are we ready for a new hype?
Guido
PS: Did I mention that the original is registered through a anonymizing DNS registrant. Why hide? Is the page a marketing trick by a company? Questions remain...

There may be hundreds at this point, Guido. I have already removed numerous comments that were nothing but blatant spam for "me too" million dollar pages which are very likely to disappear once the novelty wears off.
Lots of people attempt to protect their privacy (and email addresses) by shielding whois data. It's not a practice I generally recommend, but probably not a cause for concern in this case.

I watched this site from almost the beginning. It is amazing that a young kid like Alex can do almost every step in the process right, including hiring a US publicist to promote for him. So what's next? A new idea in www.millionfans.com wants to get million fans in addition to million dollars by using digital photo ads. Should be interesting.

Does anyone know the name of the publicist he hired?

There is a also a cow-based alternative (and for only $0.50 a pixel its a good deal, too).
Everytime you click on a pixel ad on the million dollar cow page you get a cow. You can print off your cows, collect your cows, swap your cows, even make them do battle (in an old-fashioned top-trumps style).
I've only just started the page and am trying to whip up some interest. If you'd like to take a look. it's http://www.milliondollarcowpage.com.
