Best sci-fi movie this year
OK, technically it was last year, but I didn't get to see it until recently when I discovered that it had been released on DVD and I assume I'm far from alone in not being able to see it in the theatre. It's a low-budget (according to the producer/director/actor/writer Shane Carruth, only about 7000 US dollars!) film telling a story about two engineers accidentally discovering a device with remarkable capabilities while performing anti-gravity experiments in a garage.
I'm deliberately being vague about the story because Primer is the kind of movie where at least half of the fun comes from figuring out just what the hell actually happened after watching it – preferably in the company of an intelligent friend or two to discuss with. If you liked Pi you'll almost certainly enjoy this one as well.
