Scatter/Gather thoughts

Farewell, Enterprise

I finally got around to watching the two last Star Trek Enterprise episodes aired one week ago. The penultimate episode Terra Prime was on par with the rest of season 4, while These are the voyages... was an awful finale; predictably nostalgic, but also very poorly thought through.

Framing the final episode in The Pegasus only served to detract from what little story Enterprise had, and highlight how much better TNG was. Attempting to relate These are the voyages... with this TNG episode was far-fetched to begin with, and the events were not even consistently portrayed. Maybe the writers knew they weren't going to be able to create a worthy conclusion for the series and didn't bother trying.

I know it's unlikely, but I think the best thing that could happen to the Star Trek franchise right now would be another hiatus, say ten to twenty years. That should be ample time for Berman & Braga to find some work better suited to their skills, for Paramount to get some creative people involved, and for us Trek fans to repress any memories of a series called Enterprise. Then it might be possible, once again, to boldly go where no man has gone before. (And, of course, to split infinitives... defiantly.)
